Timing belts - HTD profile
HTD belts(High Torque Drive). HTD synchronous belts are designed to transmit high levels of torque, which is possible due to their design with deep teeth that mesh with the corresponding pulleys. Their mechanical advantages are as follows

- Low Maintenance: HTD belts require little maintenance because they do not require lubrication and are resistant to dirt and contamination.
HTD synchronous belts are typically made of neoprene rubber or polyurethane. These materials are chosen for their wear resistance, ability to withstand high temperatures and adhesion to pulleys.
HTD belts are manufactured using a vacuum forming process. The manufacturing process begins by applying a layer of fiberglass fabric over a rubber or polyurethane cover. Teeth are then cut out of the fabric using a mold. A second layer of rubber or polyurethane is then applied over the first layer and the teeth are molded through this second layer of rubber or polyurethane. This process is repeated several times to add more layers of rubber or polyurethane until the belt reaches the desired thickness and width.
To stabilize its shape and dimensions, the belt is cooled and cured after molding. The teeth are then cut to the exact size and shape to fit the corresponding pulleys. To increase strength and durability, HTD belts can also be reinforced with tensile strength cords.
HTD belts are generally designed for short maintenance intervals. However, here are some tips for maintaining them and extending their life:
- Check belt tension regularly: Belt tension is important for proper operation. Insufficient tension can lead to tooth skipping or loss of timing, while excessive tension can lead to premature belt and pulley wear. Tension should be checked regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Check pulley alignment: Misaligned pulleys can cause uneven tension on the belt, resulting in premature wear or belt failure. Pulleys must be properly aligned according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Check belt condition: The belt should be inspected regularly for wear, damage or cracks. If damage is detected, the belt should be replaced immediately.
- Clean the pulleys and belts regularly: Impurities such as dirt, dust and particles can build up on pulleys and belts and shorten their life. It is important to clean the pulleys and belts regularly with a clean, dry cloth.
- Replace the belt according to the manufacturer's recommendations: HTD belts should be replaced regularly according to the manufacturer's recommendations, even if they do not show visible signs of wear. Regular belt replacement can prevent belt failure and production interruption.
