Each type of toothed pulley has a different tooth shape, making them suitable for specific needs. For example, some have rounded teeth for rugged use, others have metric-based dimensions for versatility, and some have trapezoidal teeth for increased precision. These design differences are important because they influence pulley performance in different applications.
I. Why choose a pulley / sprocket with HTD (High Torque Drive) profile?
Design:
HTD toothed pulleys have a specific tooth profile that sets them apart. Their tooth profile is generally rounded, resembling a semicircle, which creates a large contact surface between the pulley and the toothed belt. This promotes even load distribution over the teeth and reduces premature wear.
Features :
- Specific shape: The rounded profile of the teeth ensures smooth engagement, reducing noise and vibration.
- High torque transfer capacity: Thanks to their special shape, HTD pulleys are capable of handling high loads, making them suitable for applications requiring high torque transfer.
- Durability: They are designed to be robust and offer a long service life, even in demanding environments.
Applications:
HTD profile pulleys are used to transmit power and torque efficiently. They can be found in fields such as machine tools, 3D printing, robotics, medical equipment and many others. Their design enables precise, silent power transmission, making them essential for applications requiring reliable motion synchronization. For example:
For example:
- Construction equipment such as excavators.
- Oil drilling equipment.
- Food and beverage packaging machines.
- Heavy-duty conveyor systems in production plants.

II. Why choose a toothed pulley with a metric profile?
Design:
Metric toothed pulleys feature a similar tooth profile to HTD pulleys, but their dimensions are specifically based on the metric system. The teeth also have a rounded shape to promote smooth engagement.
Advantages :
- Modularity: Metric pulleys are designed to be interchangeable, which means they can be used in many different applications with corresponding toothed belts.
- Value for money: They offer good performance at a relatively low cost, making them an economical choice for many applications.
Applications:
Metric toothed pulleys are used in a wide variety of industrial applications, such as machine tools, food processing equipment, textile machinery, medical equipment, printers and scanners. They are also used in agricultural machinery and construction equipment. The modularity and cost-effectiveness of metric toothed pulleys make them a popular choice for many industries.

III. Why choose a timing pulley?
Design :
Timing profile pulleys feature a trapezoidal tooth profile. They are designed to engage perfectly with a toothed belt of the same profile. This design ensures precise engagement between pulley and belt.
Advantages :
- Precise motion transmission: Timing pulleys are renowned for their precision motion transmission, making them ideal for applications requiring precise positioning.
- Low backlash: They minimize backlash between pulley and belt, improving system accuracy and reducing wear.
- Durability: like other types of toothed pulley, Timing pulleys are robust and resistant to wear.
Applications:
Timing profile pulleys are commonly used in machine tools, robots, production equipment and packaging machines. They are also suitable for applications requiring precise positioning, such as 3D printers and laser cutting machines. Thanks to their reliability and durability, Timing pulleys are also used in demanding industrial applications, such as aerospace and defense.

IV. Why choose a GT profile pulley?
Design of toothed pulleys with GT profile
are commonly used in power transmission systems. They have a special trapezoidal toothing that fits GT timing belts of the same profile.
Advantages of these pulleys:
- Easier preventive maintenance: Due to their reliable design and precise power transmission, GT synchronous pulleys often enable easier preventive maintenance. Operators can schedule maintenance shutdowns without fear of major desynchronization.
- Versatility: GT synchronous pulleys are available in a variety of sizes and shapes to suit different applications. This makes them versatile and suitable for many industries.
- Safety: By preventing slippage, GT synchronous pulleys help avoid potentially dangerous accidents that could occur in the event of a sudden shift in power transmission.
Possible fields of application:
GT profile synchronous pulleys are widely adopted in various industrial applications to ensure precise, synchronized power transmission. For example, they are essential in manufacturing machine tools to ensure high-precision machining. They are also used in engine timing systems in the automotive industry to synchronize the camshaft and crankshaft.
GT synchronous pulleys are also used in industrial robots, where they ensure precise, synchronized joint movement.
In the medical field, they are used in imaging devices to ensure precise positioning of components.

PLEASE NOTE:
You need to choose the hub to couple your pulley to the shaft in question. To do this, refer to the "How to choose a removable hub" guide
Note: in a mechanical pulley/belt connection, the speed is unchanged when both pulleys have the same pitch diameter. Therefore, to change speed, the pulleys must have different pitch diameters. In such cases, the reduction ratio R is calculated and used to determine the output speed (R < à 1 = réduction de vitesse et R > to 1 = speed increase).
By following these tips, you should be able to choose the belts that are best suited to your application, and that operate safely and efficiently.
